Workforce Development Resources for Manufacturers
ADULT Workers
OJT (On-The-Job Training): Funds are utilized to provide training for existing employees or new hires. This program pays 50% of their salary during their on-boarding and training period. It is an excellent resource our partners use to reduce new hire costs and increase placement percentage and profits.
Apprenticeships: Funds available to support use of existing apprenticeship programs or developing new apprenticeships, and to host informational events about manufacturing apprenticeships.
Internships (paid): Starts with bootcamp and provides training, instruction and certifications in Forklift, OSHA, core competency math, financial literacy and soft skills such as interviewing, resume writing and interpersonal communication. The goal is to prepare the 18-24 year old participants for entry into the workforce, with basic manufacturing knowledge through an eight week internship.
Hiring Events: Organize hiring events for adults seeking employment in the manufacturing industry, with previous events attracting over 250 job seekers. Our organizations help screen job seekers and provide candidates to meet your needs.
HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS
SouthWorks: An annual robotics competition that fosters mentor relationships between manufacturers and high schools, while building STEM skills.
High School Job Fairs: High school job fairs provide access to graduating students who have an interest and aptitude for manufacturing, a pool of young talent to fill your entry-level positions.
MFG Month: In October, Illinois celebrates manufacturing month to promote careers in manufacturing to high school students. Manufacturers open their doors to host students, and our partners organize dozens of events and assist with connecting schools to manufacturers.
